Timeline of the Uniformed Services Family Health Plan (USFHP)<\/h3>\n

Late 1700s<\/h4>\n

Congress established the Marine Hospital Service for seamen. Hospitals were located throughout the country, including in Baltimore, Maryland.<\/p>\n

1950s<\/h4>\n

The Baltimore Marine Hospital became the United States Public Health Services Hospital and served both military and civilian populations.<\/p>\n

Early 1980s<\/h4>\n

Legislation allowed the transfer of the public health hospital to Wyman Park Health System. Later in that decade, Johns Hopkins acquired Wyman Park, which later (along with six other public health hospitals) received designation as a Uniformed Services Treatment Facility (USTF) from the Department of Defense (DoD).<\/p>\n

1993<\/h4>\n

The DoD changed all seven USTFs, like Wyman Park, to the Uniformed Services Family Health Plan (USFHP).<\/p>\n

1998<\/h4>\n

USFHP became a designated provider for TRICARE Prime.<\/p>\n

2023<\/h4>\n
